Panchromatic Copper Complexes for Visible Light Photopolymerization

In this work, eleven heteroleptic copper complexes were designed and studied as photoinitiators of polymerization in three-component photoinitiating systems combination with an iodonium salt amine. Notably, ten them exhibited panchromatic behavior could be used for long wavelengths. Ferrocene-free capable efficiently initiating both the radical cationic polymerizations similar performances to that benchmark G1 system. Formation acrylate/epoxy IPNs was also successfully performed even upon irradiation at 455 nm or 530 nm. Interestingly, all containing 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene ligand not photoluminescent, evidencing ferrocene quench photoluminescence properties complexes. Besides, these ferrocene-based free processes. The moiety introduced different affected neither their behaviors nor abilities initiate polymerizations.
